Walking Football Kicks Off a New Community Spirit
After retiring to Spain just over a year ago, Carey Delaney found herself missing one of the most rewarding parts of her life in the UK — walking football. Having played for both Preston North End and the Garstang Lionesses, Carey was already well aware of the incredible health and social benefits that come with the sport. But when she arrived in Estepona, she quickly discovered that there was no local walking football team available.
Rather than giving up, Carey decided to take matters into her own hands.

“I used to play walking football in the UK and really valued the fitness, fun, and friendships it brought. When I couldn’t find a team here, I thought — why not start one?” she said.
And that’s exactly what she did.
Thanks to Carey’s initiative, walking football is now firmly on the map in this part of the Costa del Sol. The group meets every Tuesday evening from 18:00 to 19:00 at the Deportivo Municipal Santo Tomás de Aquino. What started as a personal mission has now become a welcoming and inclusive community, open to all nationalities, ages, and abilities.
Whether you're a seasoned player or a complete beginner, Carey and the team would love to welcome you along for a session. It's a great way to stay active, meet new people, and enjoy a more relaxed form of the beautiful game.
For more information or to join the group, you can contact Carey directly on 722 215 283.
